Recent Events...

Christopher Bram read from EXILES IN AMERICA at Calamus Bookstore, Friday, October 6th. A lively conversation ensued. We have signed hardcovers.

On December 3, Calamus Bookstore hosted an exhibition of the new paintings by local author and artist JOE HAYES, just as we did last year.  It was well attended and there was  enthusiasm for his new work. Joe's show will hang in the store through January, 2006. More information about the work of Joe Hayes, including pricing, is available at his web site

JOE HAYES, once again, gave a delightful reading at Calamus, this time from his latest, NOW BATTING FOR BOSTON, which has quickly become our best selling title of 2005.  Joe discussed his work after the reading with many people who bought  his book; he's featured here, left, in conversation with author JOHN LAURITSEN. We have signed copies.

NOW BATTING FOR BOSTON is a trade paperback from Harrington Park Press, $16.95

We were delighted to host a reading on June 17th  with local author IORY ALLISON, who read a selection from his recent novel, THE FAMILY JEWELS, as well as a chapter from the next in what he proposes to be a trilogy, GLAMOUR GALORE.

It was one of our best attended events and, to coin a phrase, a good time was had by all. We have signed copies of THE FAMILY JEWELS, $17.95

On Saturday, April 2nd, Felice Picano appeared at Calamus and read from his new book, FRED IN LOVE. He also read from a work-in-progress which is part of his next installment of his memoir. It was a very amusing story about Key West, James Kirkwood, James Leo Herlihy and Tennessee Williams and, when they story gets to New York, a funny encounter between Williams and Picano in which TW tells FP that he'd based a character on him in a story, solely on the basis of accounts told him by a handsome male nurse they both knew.

We have signed copies of the first edition of FRED IN LOVE as well as other of Picano's titles.
